The QEII Health Sciences Centre has experienced high patient volumes and admissions this week, causing service impacts across the hospital.
Patient waits in the emergency department have been longer than usual this last week.
As a result of the sustained pressure, the Central Zone emergency operations centre has been opened to further manage the response to this situation and create more inpatient capacity.
It is anticipated these moves will improve the situation in the emergency department.
The NSHA advises the public to still visit the QEII emergency department if you are experiencing an emergency.
Anyone with urgent medical needs should call 911.
