An old elementary school will soon become the permanent home of the Yarmouth Boys and Girls Club.
The club will purchase the former South Centennial School on Forbes Street from the Town of Yarmouth.
They’ve hosted programming in the building before, after a flood forced the club from their building on Bond Street.
BGC Yarmouth Executive Director Jodie Pothier says being in the former school full-time will change everything.
“We’ll be able to offer new programming and extend our existing programming, we’ll be able to partner with the community and give another space. We are not the only youth service in Yarmouth, there are many groups doing wonderful things. Hopefully together we can make new opportunities for the children and youth of Yarmouth.”
Pothier says renovations will need to be done, including bathrooms, new windows and doors, and a commercial kitchen.
She says they hope to be able to start programming by late June.
Mayor Pam Mood says this will add great value for youth in the area.
