Sports fishing season in Nova Scotia starts tomorrow and if fishing in the rain is as good as they say, many fishers will have a good day! I for one, enjoy fishing but really have not gone in quite some time. Nova Scotia has many lakes and rivers with lots of trot bass and even the odd salmon. Unfortunately though, in recent years it’s been harder and harder to find these desired fish. This is because a new evasive species has been introduced in our waters by people who obviously were not thinking!
The Chain Pickerel was introduced illegally and has done quite a bit of damage on the native fish population in Nova Scotia. We’re not sure how much damage but there does seem to be a decrease in the trout and bass population. Pickerel are kind of like little crocodile fish! They eat most other fish and have even been known to eat turtles and ducklings! Just look at them! Ugly looking things eh!

Anyway as I said tomorrow is the first day of the sports fishing season and I want to hear what you think about this issue! Do you fish? Do you catch a lot of pickerel and have you noticed a decline in native fish like trout and bass? What do you think should be done about the problem? Call in and we can talk about it or comment on our Facebook page! Check out a few interesting articles on Chain Pickle and their impact on Nova Scotia! You can find the links below!
