The Municipality of Argyle has committed funds to open a Splash Park at the Mariner’s Centre, but it’s less than what was asked for.
Last night the council agreed to provide $25,000 for the Splash Park, which is $13,777 less than what was requested.
Councilors from Municipality of Argyle cited concerns about how much people in their municipality would use the splash park since they would have to travel to Yarmouth to access it.
The Yarmouth Splash Park committee had requested $38,777 from the Municipality of Argyle as well as from the town and municipality of Yarmouth.
A survey released by the committee looked at where people would be coming from to visit the splash park and found that 20% would be coming from the Municipality of Argyle. Meanwhile, it found that 35% and 37% would be coming from the town and municipality of Yarmouth respectively.
Argyle councilors amended the amount of their contribution to reflect their percentage.
The request has been approved by both the town and municipality of Yarmouth to provide the full funds for their contributions.
