A group of protesters gathered outside the office of MLA Zach Churchill today to oppose clear-cutting in the province.
It was one of six planned protests across Nova Scotia to support the efforts of clear-cutting protester Jacob Fillmore, who has been fasting for the cause since March 8th.
One of the protesters, Marcy Wallace, talked about why she chose to get involved.
“By saying nothing it means that you believe its okay as things are,” said Wallace. “I have to speak out. I have to put my money where my mouth is. I can’t just look at it anymore and say nothing.”
She also discussed who the protest is for.
“It’s not us that this is about, it’s about our future, our children, our grandchildren, our planet, “said Wallace. “This is not a selfish act, its not for us. It’s about the future of our community, our society and our wonderful province of Nova Scotia.”
The five other protests took place in Bridgewater, Wolfville, Annapolis Royal, Masstown and Halifax. Fillmore has been has been camping outside government buildings in Halifax for 103 days to protest clear-cutting in the province.
