A StFX student is helping residents at Koster Huis, a long-term care home for adults with special needs.
The residents usually work in Inverness Co. but because of COVID-19 they weren’t able to keep jobs and collect any pay.
Working in the community is important because it teaches them skills and allows them to be social.
Sophie Sawler, a StFX student, tells Acadia Broadcasting she started making rosaries to create employment for the residents.
“I bring them to the house and they essentially are my sales people, they are awesome at that. “They’ll go do deliveries, they’ll sell to customers and honestly it’s such an amazing social activity for them, I think they really enjoy it.”
Sawler says when she’s not studying, she’s making the rosaries and bracelets.
“We came up with the idea of making crafts and in the beginning that’s what we were doing. Then we specialized it into making rosaries.”
She says rosaries and bracelets can be purchased by email.
Her email is sawler_mabou@iCloud.com.
