The Town of Yarmouth has received a grant to help reopen the former YMCA at 275 Main Street.
The Canadian Tire Corporation has awarded $15,000 from their Jumpstart Sport Relief Fund Grant Program to the town to restart aquatic and fitness services at the facility.
Mayor Pam Mood talked explained how the town learned about the grant.
“There’s funds out there, its just a matter of trying to access them,” said Mood. “It was Darcy DeSutter who owns Canadian Tire locally here, he found that line of funding and made sure that we applied and we ended up with the $15,000. So tremendously thankful for that.”
She also talked about how helpful the money will be.
“I think we all know as a community every penny counts,” said Mood. “We want to get this up and running as quickly as possible. It’s not just physical health its mental health for the community, especially during COVID-19. $15,000 goes a long way.”
The Town is among 300 organizations across Canada to be provided with grant support through Jumpstart’s Sport Relief Fund.
