Concerns over impaired ATV driving in the area are being raised by MADD Yarmouth.
Representative for MADD Rick Allwright talked about the issue.
“We’ve been hearing anecdotal statements regarding a major increase in the amount of impaired operation of ATVs, specifically in the rural parts of Yarmouth and Argyle counties,” said Allwright. “We’ve become more and more concerned with these actions.”
He also shared MADD’s message on the issue.
“It is just as illegal to drive while impaired on an ATV as it is with any other vehicle,” said Allwright. “So it is extremely dangerous.”
MADD cites the most recent data from the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, a 2012 report, which says that 90% of all off road vehicle crashes had alcohol as a factor.
Allwright says MADD is planning to work with local RCMP as well as do promotional work on the issue in the area.
