There was plenty of food to go around in Yarmouth yesterday.
Three separate events to provide meals to members of the community were held yesterday.
237 roast beef dinners were delivered to seniors, a chili lunch at the HOPE Centre fed 150 people and 150 pizza kits given out between Temple church and Evangel Assembly.
Deputy Mayor Steve Berry organized the roast beef dinner delivery and talked about the potential for future events like these ones.
“We’ve been trying to do a meal once a month given the fact that COVID-19 has changed up everything and we can’t do the 100 Meals like we had consistently in the past,” said Berry. “We still try to give something out every now and then just a little special to let people know we’re still thinking about them.”
Berry says that it was important to help seniors because they are often overlooked or just grouped in with everyone else.
He also passed along a thank you message to the volunteers.
“You don’t do this kind of thing without a team, without the same people stepping up over and over just to give back selflessly,” said Berry. “Thank you to those people who continue to do that. I think that’s what Yarmouth’s strength is and that’s what we’re really all about.”
