The Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Government of Canada have announced $100,000 in funding for new asset management projects in two Nova Scotia communities through the FCM’s Municipal Asset Management Program.
Yarmouth and Lunenburg have each received $50,000 to to strengthen local infrastructure planning and decision-making.
Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood says the town will use the money to update its inventory of pipes.
“I think everyone understands, especially in town, our infrastructure is tremendously old, hundreds of years old. Especially pipes and things like that. We have to make sure we’re taking care of things.”
The plan will allow the town to assess the usefulness of inventory as well as costs to operate, maintain and replace existing inventory, to better manage assets moving forward.
Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood says they’re always looking for opportunities to work with other levels of government on projects.
“To make sure that our communities are sustainable and that we continue to grow. And to make sure that things are looked after before they get too far down the road. We’re always on the look for more partnerships.”
An Asset Management Policy was adopted by the town in February of 2019.
