Concerns about a lack of dedicated palliative care facility in the south shore area are being raised by MLA for Queens/Shelburne, Kim Masland.
She talked about why it is important to have a dedicated facility.
“When we have someone, people that we love or even ourselves, reaching the point of the end of life we want to make sure that we have the ability or a place that is close to home that we can die comfortably,” said Masland. “Right now in Queens/Lunenburg we don’t have those designated spots.”
She put the question of how to bring more palliative care to the area to Health and Wellness Minister Zach Churchill last week at the legislature.
“He agreed that we certainly do need more dedicated palliative care centers,” said Masland. “So I’ve asked for a commitment for the government to look at the urgent need of such a facility and, basically, act on it.”
Masland says as it stands right now they do not even have designated acute care palliative beds.
