I have lived in the woods or close to the woods for almost my whole life. I also drive through very wooded areas every day. I’ve seen a ton of different animals. Deer of course are the most common but I’ve also seen bald eagles, coyotes and even a few bears. One animal though has never shown itself. I’ve heard of others who have seen them but not me. At least not in the wild. Bobcats!
They are actually pretty common apparently. According to the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park they are pretty adaptable to humans moving into their habitat but they are also very good at hiding and staying away from humans. That’s probably why they are sort of rare to see. I also found out that they mostly go for small prey like rabbits but have been known to attack pets as well. They will also hunt deer if food is scares. Find out more about them HERE !
I find it very interesting that we have a wild cat in the woods of Nova Scotia that are really not that common to see. I can remember my aunt and uncle had one in their backyard for quite awhile a few years ago and judging by the pictures, they were bigger then I expected. Also, yes I do believe there are cougars in Nova Scotia as well but that’s a blog for another time. Have you ever seen a bobcat in the wild? Where was it (general location) what did it do when it saw you? Let me know on our Facebook page or call in (1800-496-2557)
