
A Dartmouth man has been arrested in New Minas after a series of tool thefts at businesses in the community.
On February 12th and 17th RCMP responded to two separate reports of shoplifting at the same business. A welder had been stolen both times.
They wouldn’t be the only incidents, a large number of tools were later stolen at a different business on February 19th. The suspect returned on February 24th and stole another large amount of tools.
Surveillance showed that the suspect was driving a white Chevrolet Impala. Police located the vehicle shortly after the fourth incident which fled at high speeds.
The vehicle was found a short time later abandoned on Old Cemetery Rd. A male suspect was spotted a short distance from the vehicle on Hwy 101.
57 year-old Dennis Cecil Francis Johnson of Dartmouth was arrested and charged with 5 counts of theft under $5,000, 2 counts of possession of stolen property and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Johnson is still in custody due to parole violation. He will appear in Kentville Provincial Court on April 13.
