A number of families in the Tri-Counties have been given the tools to make home cooking much easier.
The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) has partnered with Nourish Nova Scotia to launch the “Literally Nutritious” program.
The program highlights simple and delicious slow cooker recipes and has provided 30 families in the area with a slow cooker, fresh food box, pantry items, and recipe cards.
TCRCE Active Healthy Living Consultant Lori Munro-Sigfridson says that the program will teach families about more than just cooking.
“Not only do we want to be able to provide our families with the opportunity to gain skills but its also a great opportunity for families to connect,” said Munro-Sigfridson. “That time to just be together and working on a common goal of creating a meal.”
A number of local chefs were also brought in to make videos to teach introductory cooking skills using minimal equipment. They can be found on TCRCE’s website.
Munro-Sigfridson talked more about the recipes people can expect to learn about.
“Recipes that are wholesome and economically feasible for families,” said Munro-Sigfridson. “We have everything from some really simple soup recipes to homemade baked beans to a pizza soup recipe. We wanted to look at a variety of recipes we figured from children and youth to adults would enjoy.”
