A vacant lot at 56 Argyle Street is the future site of a housing development following an approval from Yarmouth Town Council.
The town of Yarmouth has approved the sale of a property at 56 Argyle Street to develop more housing.
The sale went through for $1.
The sale was made to Compass Housing Cooperative to allow them to develop a multi-unit mixed housing complex.
Councilor Gil Dares talked about how the development will help that neighborhood.
“The purpose of this is to create a mixed-housing unit on Argyle Street, and I think it’s going to be a first step in revitalizing a neighborhood that needs some attention.”
A condition for the sale is that the development has to start within two years of the sale.
Dares says the approach is the right one.
“I believe that proceeding with a mixed housing unit is the way to go, especially when we’re talking about property being sold to a non-profit cooperative housing association that will provide not only governance, but also will provide management and maintenance.”
Before the decision was made, a public hearing was held though nobody came forward with any concerns.
