Justin Trudeau is dismissing concerns about the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
The Prime Minister says he understands Canadians are tired of the pandemic and want to know when it will end.
“That’s why there’s a lot of anxiety and a lot of noise going on right now. That’s why I want to reassure Canadians that we are on track,” he says.
Trudeau maintains the country will get everyone vaccinated by September. He adds that despite delays, Moderna and Pfizer have confirmed they will send a combined six million doses by the end of March.
Trudeau says vaccines from AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson could get Health Canada’s approval next.
He is also defending the choice to take from a COVID-19 vaccine fund meant for poorer countries.
He claims that because Canada paid into the COVAX fund, it isn’t doing anything wrong by using it to secure nearly two million AstraZeneca vaccine doses.
“Our contribution was always intended to access vaccine doses for Canadians, as well as to support lower-income countries,” Trudeau says.
