The status of this year’s Coal Shed Music Festival is undecided according to volunteer chair Phil DeMille.
The festival was cancelled last year due to COVID-19. DeMille talked about the potential for the festival to return this year.
“It’s so hard to know at this stage what the situation will be in August. It’s still a fair distance away,” said DeMille. “Of course with the inoculations coming on, the scene may change drastically by the time we reach summer and we’re certainly hoping for that.”
While DeMille is hopeful that the festival can come back this year he says it depends on what the government says.
“We’re prepared to do whatever we need to do but we need, first of all, to know that we’re within our rights to proceed and make plans,” said DeMille. “None of the festivals, to my knowledge, have made any plans up to this point.”
A decision by DeMille and others to proceed will be made in March. The festival is not taking any bookings for the summer lineup at this point.
