A local general store has been collecting donations for Yarmouth County Ground Search and Rescue.
Carl’s Store, with locations in Wedgeport and Tusket, has raised close to $17,000.
Co-owner Alain Muise said they wanted to raise money because of the recent searches around Plymouth and Morris Island.
“We saw a need and we decided that we’re in a position to try to make something happen,” said Muise. “Our residents, as they usually do, they don’t disappoint.”
$9,606 was raised from individuals. $7,350 from businesses.
Muise says that they have finished accepting individual donations but hopes other businesses will chip in.
“It would be really nice to round that up to a nice little twenty thousand,” said Muise. “If there are other corporations that are inspired to join us in this fundraising effort, we might be able to get there.”
