While the COVID-19 vaccine is being rolled out across the province, Argyle-Barrington MLA, Colton LeBlanc, says that the southwest is being left out.
After speaking with Chief Medical Officer Dr. Robert Strang, LeBlanc learned that while the other sites in the province have started to receive doses, Yarmouth Regional Hospital would not receive any until early February.
LeBlanc was told the limited supply of the vaccine was the reason but he isn’t satisfied.
“The work that’s being done in Yarmouth is identical to the work that’s being done in Halifax or any other part of the province,” said LeBlanc. “I just see it being unfair that here in southwest Nova Scotia we may be seen as being treated a little bit different in the vaccine rollout.”
In December it was announced that Yarmouth Regional Hospital would be among the sites set up for storage of the vaccine.
LeBlanc noted that Nova Scotia is behind other provinces at getting shots into arms. He says that the province should reach out to the federal government for the supply issues.
“It’s concerning that the longer that we start a vaccine rollout here in southwestern Nova Scotia the longer it is before those at the bottom of the phase one priority list will get a shot in the arm.”
