The search for a man missing in the waters off Morris Island has been handed off to RCMP.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said on Wednesday that they decided to suspend activity following more than 26 hours of searching.
Based on the results of the search over the last 26+ hours, the search for the missing person has been suspended. Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to the family, friends, and community. The case will now be turned over to the RCMP as a missing persons case.

The Mounties continue to search for 69-year Kenneth Peter Surette.
Yarmouth County Ground Search and Rescue crews were combing the shoreline throughout the day on Wednesday.
Surette was last seen travelling in a canoe on Sunday around 11 a.m.
The canoe was recovered Wednesday morning in the water between Surette’s Island and Morris Island.
The RCMP is asking the public to avoid the shoreline area while the search continues.
