A slew of new COVID-19 restrictions are coming.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang they are to help limit the spread of COVID-19 during the holiday season.
Dr. Strang announced enhanced restrictions which take effect Monday, and run three weeks, until January 10.
“For lots of people the holiday often means travel within the province to visit family. We’re not telling you that you can’t, we’re asking you to think twice about it. The less you travel anywhere right now, the better,” he says. “If you are travelling, drive there directly, minimize unnecessary stops, and when you get to where you are going, stay close to that home.”
Dr. Strang says the restrictions include new gathering limits, now 10 people including household members, and asked people to go back to only sending one person out of the home to run errands.
He says social, cultural, and sporting events and festivals aren’t permitted.
“We need to avoid crowds,” he says. “And avoid gatherings.”
However, Dr. Strang says faith gatherings, wedding ceremonies, and funeral services may carry on, with a maximum of 150 people outdoors or 100 people indoors, up to half a venue’s maximum capacity. Wedding and funeral receptions are not included in the exception.
The complete restrictions are available here.
He reported four new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, all in the Central Zone, one under investigation, and 55 active infections provincewide.
