Four Pictou Co. men have been arrested following gunfire near the Pictou Landing First Nation.
RCMP say they received a report of shots fired at roughly 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
They say one man, 51, turned himself in shortly after the incident; three others were arrested in Caribou Monday.
Police say a man noticed crew members of a fishing vessel removing lobster traps from the water, and the man approached in a small boat; as he approached, the fishing vessel sped toward him, and shots were fired from that vessel.
No one was hurt.
Andrea Paul, the chief of the Pictou Landing First Nation, says the incident was related to their moderate livelihood fishery in the Northumberland Strait.
Paul says their lobster traps have been destroyed by people opposed to their fishery for a while, and their fishers were getting discouraged.
She says DFO officials and RCMP are aware of vandalism to their lobster traps, and not enough has been done to curb the crime.
