The call is going out for artists and property owners to liven up downtown Yarmouth with murals.
The Yarmouth Façade Society has started their Mural Grant Program which will provide up to $5,000 in matching contributions for selected projects.
The program is focusing on downtown Yarmouth, hoping to showcase the art and multiculturalism of the town. It’s up to owners and artists to partner up to propose a mural.
President of the Yarmouth Façade Society, Belle Hatfield, discussed the importance of bringing mural art to the downtown.
“Towns are living spaces and our downtown is the beating heart of our community,” said Hatfield. “The face that we put forward tells everybody everything they need to know about our community.”
She also talked about the potential for murals in downtown Yarmouth.
“One of the beauties of the geography of the downtown is that we’re built on a hill and so we have lots of view planes,” said Hatfield “There isn’t a corner you can turn where you don’t see a wall.”
The deadline for applications is January 29th. Applications can be found on the Town of Yarmouth website.
