I’m not one to be negative, but this time of year there are little things that just aggravate me. I mean you can only be holly and jolly so much before the aggravation comes through! As decor is added to homes I am seeing a lot of “suggested” decorations on Facebook… you know those ads that tell you what they think you’ll like. I can tell you for the most part I DO NOT want any of it. WISH can keep its cheap items and I’ll pick up my decor locally. But as I browsed my social media feeds, I summarized my least favourite decor items. Maybe you agree, maybe you don’t… but for me, I will always HARD PASS on these items.
5-Bathroom Decor – Three Piece Toilet Covers: Ok, who though decorating the bathroom needed to be a part of the holidays? I’m guessing it was most likely a lady with no children. Or at least no male children. Whenever I see this type of bathroom decor I can’t help but wonder how much “dribble” has landed on Santa’s suit! Not to mention, Santa doesn’t need to watch me do my bathroom business!
4-Car Decorations: Your car isn’t a reindeer. It’s not going to fly up in the sky and help Santa bring joy to children across the world. I really don’t even know how these the reindeer antlers stay in place… can you still roll your windows down? Do you constantly have a draft coming in your front windows?
3-Christmas Party Hats: I’m all for ugly sweater parties but these just are too much! Tacky and what are you going to do with them after Christmas? Just add them into your decor bin? Do they really last until next year or are you buying a new one every year? It’s a pass from me!
2-Political Ornaments: I always find the holidays a bit too commercial already. It’s not a time that your political soapbox needs to come out in the form of ornaments, nor do you need to fill the house with branded ads. Here’s my advice: “Keep it merry and bright and then you won’t have a family political fight!”
1-TINSEL! My mom is a big tinsel fan. Every year as a kid my sister and I had to painstakingly string tinsel on the the tree. I kind of thought it made the tree look like a giant silver “Cousin It” from the Addams Family(ok that’s an over exaggeration but you get the picture!). And then, to take it off took forever! Maybe this is just supressed childhood trauma for me, but I never, ever will add tinsel to my Christmas tree.
Is there any holiday decor items that you despise? Let me know what it is and it might just make my list next year!
