Provincial parks had a successful year in spite of COIVD-19.
The Department of Lands and Forestry has released their campground visitor attendance numbers for the 2020 season.
Over 247,000 people visited campgrounds in provincial parks this year.
Minister Zach Churchill said that Yarmouth county’s Ellenwood Lake campsite was among that parks that excelled.
“We’re really excited from a local perspective to have Ellenwood do so well with 60% more visitors and campers this year,” said Churchill. “And really excited that our government was able to put some investment into Ellenwood to upgrade some of the sites with water and electricity. I think that, of course, helped.”
Churchill said that COVID-19 had a role in boosting Ellenwood’s numbers.
“People who are used to travelling outside of Atlantic Canada, because of this current situation with COVID-19, decided to really take advantage of some of the beautiful sights and experiences that we have here.”
