There may be community spread in the province.
At Monday’s COVID-19 update, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang said there is one new case, a close contact of a previously reported case, related to a new cluster in the Halifax area.
Dr. Strang said Public Health is still investigating that cluster.
“We have a few places that are very concerning,” he said. “I’m not at a point where I’m going to conclude that we have general community spread, but I’m also not at a point where I can rule that out either.”
Dr. Strang said, so far, the confirmed cases are related to interconnected social groups.
However, he said we must let Public Health do its work.
“We’ve had community exposures, but everything we’re seeing in what were seeing in the Clayton Park area; there’s groups who are socially connected that we’re trying to tease apart,” he said. “We’re at a point where we can’t say that there is broad community spread, but we can’t say there’s not either.”
He said much can change in the next 48 hours.
One new restriction was announced today.
Dr. Strang said, from now on, if any person in a household is self isolating, all other members of the household must also quarantine, for a full 14 days after they come into contact with person who must isolate.
Public Health also announced a new potential exposure in Bedford Friday evening, at a combined Sobeys/NSLC on the Bedford Hwy.
