Canada Post has unveiled some commemorative holiday stamps featuring the work of a beloved Tri-County artist.
The Christmas stamps are an annual tradition, and it was announced on Monday that this year they feature the work of Maud Lewis.
Lewis was born in Yarmouth but lived most of her life in Marshalltown, Digby County.
Municipality of Digby Warden Jimmy MacAlpine said Lewis holds a special place in residents’ hearts.
“Although Maud faced many personal challenge, they never dampened her spirit for life,” he noted. “In fact, they made her see beauty in everything around her, beauty she has shared with all of us through her incredible body of work.”
The works depicted in the stamps are ‘Family and Sled’, ‘Winter Sleigh Ride’, and ‘Two Oxen in Winter’.
Director of Marketing and Visitor Experience at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Colin Stinson says Lewis’ body of work is one that often celebrates the simple things in life.
The stamps are available now.
