I consider myself a pie connoisseur. I love pie. I live for pie. I think every occasion deserves a big ‘ol piece of pie to go along with it. I toss aside the cake for my birthday and always request birthday pie instead!
With this expertise and this being Thanksgiving, I am sharing my Top 5 Pie Rankings. While you may not agree(spoiler – pumpkin is NOT in my top 5), this is based on my 34 years of pie sampling at every single occasion! My top five has changed through the years, but here is the current list:
#5 Apple Pie
It’s an absolute classic. Apple pie with a flakey pastry crust or crumble top – I’ll take it either way. I’ll take mine headed slightly but you can hold the “a la mode”. I don’t want ice cream to take away from the delicious pie. I’m a pie purist – I don’t need anything on the side.

#4 Lemon Meringue Pie
I love me some meringue! That tall, whipped sweet egg topping can’t be beat! Pair it with the tart of the lemon and it’s just perfect. If you’ve never indulged in “Mile High Lemon Meringue” from local diner Joanne’s Quick and Tasty you’re missing out. It’s a wonder in itself!

#3 Peach Pie
This is one pie I am CRAVING! My mom always makes a fantastic glazed peach pie in the summer and I miss it! Sooo sweet and delicious, peach pie stands out to me as a must for the summer. While I do love a peach cobbler as well, peach pie is a special treat to me.
#2 Raspberry Pie
Nothing says Grandma’s house to me more then Raspberry Pie. It’s a pie fought over by my aunts and uncles at holidays and Grandma Phibbs sure makes a great pie! Once in a while she even brings her pie to a church bake sale and it rakes in a pretty penny because everyone around knows how good it is. I ALWAYS make sure to get some Raspberry pie when I visit Ontario. This isn’t a pie that I’ve ever seen in Nova Scotia but it should be! Raspberry Pie is the perfect sweet and slightly tart combo and I will always picture myself at Grandma’s Farm when I have a slice.
#1 Cherry Pie
She’s my cherry pie, Cool drink of water, such a sweet surprise.
Tastes so good, makes a grown man cry, Sweet Cherry Pie, yeah.
I can’t say enough about cherry pie. When I finished my Full Marathon I wanted cherry pie. When I finish a big project, I want cherry pie. Sometimes I hit up Bailey’s Bakery and just buy an entire Cherry Pie for myself. It’s my absolute favourite. My husband doesn’t like cherries (I know right, how can you not like cherries!?), so I always get to polish off this pie all to myself. It’s by far the best pie and as I’m typing this I may just be drooling over the thought of cutting myself a big ‘ol slice when I get home!

So tell me, what’s your top pie? Whatever it is, I hope you are enjoying a great big slice of it this Thanksgiving weekend!
