In the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth, the pivot to electronic voting may prove to boost what is typically an abysmal voter turnout.
Municipal Returning Officer Dean Fuller says the first day of voting went smoothly, and they’re on track for a good turnout if the numbers continue to trend the way they are.
“It’s been, I would say, phenomenal,” he explained. “Really pleased thus far. Yesterday [ Thursday -ed.] we saw 13.46% of eligible voters vote, which is great. In 2016, we actually had a 39.9% for the complete election, so that’s a great start.”
Fuller says so far, the biggest turnout has been in District 7, where there’s a three-way race between Nick Hilton, Sandra Fitzgerald, and Leland Anthony.
In the Town of Yarmouth, a 15% turnout in the first day of voting.
The town will be posting regular updates on their website.
