As the newest team member with Y95 I wanted to do something to get involved as part of the team. I’ve been picking away at different ideas for weekender episodes, I’ve been trying to up my social-media creativity as well and of course, I’m trying to find local things to talk about on-air in a year of limited events and cancelled festivals.
When I was told about the 95 Days of Summer Promotion I was excited! Summer is short but over 95 days the station was going to highlight great summer tunes and the announcers were going to be out and about exploring the area. And I wanted to be out there too! I mean, I’m only on air an average of 3hrs a week so I don’t get to interact with the full time staff all that much. I chill in the studio on a Sunday in comfortable clothes and hope that I don’t accidentally take the station off-air (it’s a real fear!). I wanted to show that I am part of the team, even though I only see co-workers face-to-face about once a month.
So as the 95 Days of Summer started I watched for check in’s around the tri-counties from my Full Time counterparts and realized, “Hey! Here’s my chance! I am going to find 95 things to do around the Yarmouth/Digby/ Shelburne area and show-off the area!” So, the organized person that I am, I started my list. From number one to number ninety five, I made a list of where I was going to get to. On June 30th I began. On September 7th I finished. And here’s what I learned:
1 – There are WAY more than 95 things to do in the tri-counties! Seriously, my list is far from done despite having 95 things complete! I just kept adding to it!
2 – I need more hours in my day and more days in my year to see it all!
3 – There are more back roads then I ever realized and I love getting lost on a country road.
4 – We seriously live in the most beautiful place in the world! I mean, hello sunset’s and sunrises! Lighthouses and beaches! Boardwalks and walking trails! So many views just took my breath away!
5 – Oh – did I mention, there’s way more than 95 things to do!!!

In all honesty, as proud as I am of capturing all of these great things to do I actually feel a little bad! As Labour Day was approaching I panicked when I realized I wouldn’t be able to get to all the places I had on my list. I started modifying, adding in new items and scratching out a few of my original spots. Often when I went to visit a location I’d find many more things to explore while I was there and therefore my list grew and grew and some items just had to go! I didn’t get to make it to Shelburne. I didn’t make it into the town of Digby. I had so wanted to find the waterfall in Weymouth and explore New France. I wanted to visit the Black Loyalist Museum and kayak in Shelburne Harbour. What I think I really wanted was summer to go on forever… but alas, there are only so many hours in the day.
So here they are, my list of 95 Things to Do in the Tri-Counties, explored, experienced and captured between June 30-Sept 5th!

At the end of it all, if you ask me whether I’ll do this again next summer I may hesitate for a moment as I reflect on the time spent capturing these locations but after that moment passes, I’d whole heartily say YES! In a year of staycations this promotion brought me such joy in exploring a region that I love. It made summer feel a bit more normal in a year of anything-but-normal.
Ready to explore the closest beach as soon as my shift ends 😉
