it’s “Bow Tie Day”, saluting the look that involves ‘a ribbon of fabric tied around the collar in a symmetrical manner such that the 2 opposite ends form loops’. (Some people just can’t pull off a bow tie…and that’s why their face is red!)
It’s “Cherry Turnover Day”, celebrating the yummy treat made with a little puff pastry, some cherries, some butter …. and a little more butter.
It’s “Crackers Over the Keyboard Day”, honoring the time-honored tradition of snacking and web surfing. What’s the worst thing you’ve spilled on your computer keyboard? Or someone else’s?
It’s “Radio Commercials Day”, commemorating the first-ever radio ad, broadcast on this date in 1922. Queensboro Realty received 10 minutes of air time on NYC station WEAF for $100.
It’s “Red Wine Day”, whether you prefer a fine wine after a hard day at work, with a few of your favorite friends at the local pub, or enjoy a glass or two during dinner, red wine is perfect any time! (Except the shower. Wine is MUCH better in the bath…) Here are some benefits:
✓ Good for your heart – Grapes are loaded with antioxidants. Resveratrol is believed to be the key ingredient in red wine that is good for blood vessels, lowers blood pressure and increases the good kind of cholesterol – HDL.
✓ Cancer – Drinking dark red wine may also reduce the risk of colon, lung and prostate cancer. Some believe resveratrol attacks cancerous cells and “inhibits their ability to function.”
✓ Brain Power – Resveratrol may also help keep your memory sharp-as-a-whistle.
✓ Colds – Red wine may help keep the common cold at bay.
✓ Red wine may help prevent tooth decay.
✓ Resveratrol testing on animals suggests it may also help protect against obesity and diabetes. The skin of red grapes may help regulate blood sugar. (Never mind the wine…get me a bottle of resveratrol!)
