Voters in the Municipality of the District of Argyle will be headed to the polls electronically.
The Municipality is the latest to roll out election plans that use e-voting only due to the pandemic.
Returning Officer Kim Rowley says electors will receive a PIN in the mail and will be able to vote via any device that is connected to the internet, or via landline.
There will also be a kiosks available for those who may need help using the e-voting route, but they’re trying to keep the number of people attending the kiosks to a minimum.
“Because of COVID-19, we’re trying to limit the amount of areas that we have open and a lot of the halls do not want to open because of COVID-19,” she explained. ” So we’re pretty limited on where we can be. Our kiosks are located at the Tusket Archives, the Wedgeport Fire Hall and the Pubnico Library, and we have certain days for each of these locations.”
She notes that although the Municipality typically has a higher voter turnout than others in the area, they’re hoping the e-voting method will further boost those numbers.
“I guess we’re hoping this year because of COVID-19 more people are online, a lot of seniors are being connected online because of it,” she said. “So our hopes in all the Municipalities is that we can have one positive outcome of COVID-19 is that we’ll more people out voting.”
Municipal elections are slated for October 17th.
