
It’s National Acadian Day, an important celebration in parts of the Tri-Counties.
The 15th of August has been celebrated since 1881 in recognition the rich and unique heritage of Acadians.
In 2003, the Government of Canada passed the National Acadian Day Act.
The province of Nova Scotia recognized the day in 2004.
Expect to see red, white, and blue decorations in Acadian communities throughout the Tri-Counties.
There are also some events on tap.
In Wedgeport, a Tintamarre will begin at 6:30 from the Credit Union, to the Wedgeport Tuna Museum.
People are encouraged to decorate their properties in Acadian colours.
La Fédération culturelle acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse (FéCANE) will be holding a Quinzou virtual concert on their facebook page beginning at 4.
The Village Historique Acadien in West Pubnico is open for those who want to get a up close and personal with elements of Acadian history.
La Société acadienne de Clare, Festival acadien de Clare and Loisirs de Clare will also be holding a tintamarre.
There are two starting points: one at Salmon River and Saint Bernard, both leaving at 6pm.
