The latest update on Hurricane Isaias from the Emergency Management Office says Nova Scotia will likely miss the worst the storm has to offer.
Isaias is now top of the tropical storm threshold and expected to reach eastern Canada by midday on Wednesday. It would need to continue to strengthen to be a category 1 hurricane again. The storm strengthened slightly overnight and is expected to continue to do so over the next 12 hours.
The statement released August 3 said that given the forecast track, any significant rain for Nova Scotia is pretty much off the table. The heaviest rainfall will be north and west of Nova Scotia.
“We will also be far enough away from the storm to avoid any real damaging winds. Parts of the Annapolis Valley and northern Nova Scotia could see some gusty winds Wednesday afternoon but otherwise little to no impacts.”
There is still a possibility that the current forecast track could shift south and that could mean stronger winds for the province.
The Canadian Hurricane Centre is now issuing updates on Isaias every 6 hours here.
