A face lift on the horizon for NSCC Burridge campus.
The province announced on Wednesday a $19.4 million dollar investment for upgrades at nine campuses across Nova Scotia.
Both Yarmouth and Shelburne are on the list.
Mary Thompson is Principal at both campuses, as well as the Digby Satellite campus.
While it’s still early for details about the amount of funding being directed to local campuses, Thompson describes some of the upcoming upgrades.
“A refacing of the building, taking off some of the old panels, doing some repair work and doing a re-cladding of the building,” she explained. “So the building will be re-faced, we’ll also have a new entrance coming in the back which will be fully accessible.”
She anticipates work to begin in mid-to-late August, with an expected completion date at the end of March.
Thompson says because they’ve moved to an on-line/blended learning model, disruption should be minimal.
“There will be some minor disruptions of the boys and girls day care that is on site,” she noted. “We’ll actually be relocating temporarily for safety reasons, and then we’ll be coming back to us in January when the area that the day care would be in is completed.”
The exact amount of funding each campus will receive hasn’t yet been pinned down.
