Masks will be mandatory at the end of the month.
The province announced today you will be required to wear a mask in indoor public spaces starting July 31.
This includes:
– retail businesses
– shopping centres
– salons, spas, and tattoo parlors, except during services that require removing a mask
– restaurants and bars, except while eating or drinking
– places of worship
– movie theatres, concerts, and other performances
– gyms, pools, or indoor sports facilities, except while doing an activity where a mask cannot be worn
– conferences and receptions
– municipal or provincial government offices that serve the public
– tourist accommodations outside private rooms
– office buildings except for private offices
– public areas of a university or college campus but not classrooms, labs, offices, or residences
– train or bus stations, ferry terminals, and airports
Chief Medical Officer of Health Doctor Robert Strang says he understands it’s a detailed policy.
“I know there’s a long list of places to remember, but all you really have to remember is this: when in doubt, wear a mask,” he says. “It’s about caring for each other, creating a positive community, and using common sense, so let’s all make wearing a mask a habit. When you grab your keys to leave home, grab your mask as well.”
Doctor Strang says children under two are exempt, as are children under five when parents can’t get them to wear a mask.
He says they’ll avoid punishing people who don’t comply for now.
