A few more details have been gleaned surrounding a leave of absence for the Warden for the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth.
The leave was made public via a brief message on the Municipality’s facebook page late on Wednesday night, and has also been posted on their website.
It noted that council approved warden Leland Anthony’s absence following an internal review, which fell under the Elected Officials Code of Conduct as well as the Violence in the Workforce policy.
Council went in-camera to deal with the issue, though the subsequent motion read by councilor John Cunningham offered some additional info.
“The leave will be with full pay with the exception of travel allowance, the Warden will be required to take anger management counselling, and the leave will be to the end of this council’s term.”
In a follow-up statement on Thursday afternoon, CAO Victoria Brooks wrote, “While the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth (MODY) is in the process of managing a leadership transition we remain focussed on serving our residents first and foremost. MODY anticipates new developments in the coming weeks will propel our mission and mandate as a community and further inform our consistently strategic direction.”
The response re-affirmed that they would not be doing any interviews.
Municipal elections are slated for October 17th.
