A spokesperson for RBC confirms that the Royal Bank in Clark’s Harbour will be re-opening in August on a reduced schedule.
Regional Vice President for Central & Western Nova Scotia Brent Aitken confirms that the branch is slated to operate three days a week beginning on August 10th.
Banking hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
He says they’ll be monitoring client traffic to see if they need to re-evaluate.
RBC announced on March 17th that the Clark’s Harbour branch would be subject to a temporary closure in order to protect the health and well-being of employees, clients and communities against COVID-19.
Barrington Passage is now the closest branch for clients who would typically use the Clark’s Harbour location.
Clark’s Harbour Mayor Leigh Stoddart says he’s concerned about the heavy burden the reduced hours will place on seniors in the area.
“They still find it difficult to go to Barrington and wait out in the weather,” he said. “They don’t have a very large lot there in Barrington, so there’s traffic going, they’re standing there – no matter if it’s hot, cold, whatever. Because you have everybody funneling into one branch, they have to stand outside, no matter what the weather conditions,” he explained. “Seniors. Veterans. Standing out in the cold, waiting to get their banking done.”
Stoddart says on-line banking can be a challenge for many seniors, and they’re more apt to do their banking in person.
He says Town Council will be forwarding a letter to RBC to make their thoughts known.
