With the summer weather here and many people getting antsy after long quarantines, Yarmouth Recreation is planning a number of activities.
Director Frank Grant says things will definitely be done a bit differently this year.
“One of the things we’re doing is…we’re calling it ‘Bounce Back Summer Program’, which is small group activities for children ages nine and up, so small groups of six or seven because we’re still under the group of ten.”
The rest of the group would be made up of staff.
Grant says they are also setting up programs that will include other age groups.
“We are looking at doing programs for ages nine and up, so that means eight and below, we are looking at doing some family type of activities that we hope will include families that can help us with their younger ones in family type of settings.”
He says they will also be doing a number of activities that have been around for years but, obviously, with changes to allow for Public Health protocols.
“We are still planning for life guarded swimming at Lake Milo, starting the end of June, and we are doing some canoe and kayak rentals, as well. Things will be done differently, we have to sanitize and practice good hygiene manners.”
They have also hired a supervisor for the skate park to ensure protocols are followed and they are working on how people can enjoy Canada Day without the usual waterfront activities.
He says the Town of Yarmouth will host a drive-thru pancake breakfast and the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth will host an ice cream give-away at Cape Forchu.
