There has been another COVID-19 related death in Nova Scotia, the 61st.
The woman, in her 70s with underlying conditions, was in the Central Zone and did not live in a long-term Care home.
Dr. Robert Strang, the chief medical officer of health, says the death actually occurred a while ago.
“She actually passed away a number of weeks ago. Her death had been under investigation since then to determine if it was actually COVID related or not and we’ve now got the information to make the conclusion that this was actually related to COVID-19.”
After two days without a positive case, on more has been identified, bringing the total to 1060.
There is still one resident at the Northwood long-term care home in Halifax with an active case.
Much of the information that has not been released over the past two days is being reconciled and should be ready Wednesday.
Dr. Strang is also encouraging people to get out and enjoy a vacation, even if you can’t leave the province.
“It’s important we understand that there are going to be many challenges to our local economy and our tourism industry, so, this year, we encourage people to actually do your vacation at home, within Nova Scotia, travel around the province, doing that safely while, at the same time, supporting our local economy and communities around the province.”
Currently, both the international border and the borders with New Brunswick and PEI are closed.
Now that many businesses have re-opened, Premier Stephen McNeil says they are looking at how to open more government service offices.
“How do we start opening up other centres across the province, not only Service Nova Scotia but Community Services, for example, we would require clients would come in and meet. That process is ongoing, the clerk has been working with her colleagues; they’ll communicate that out to their employees in the coming week or two.”
The Premier pointed out that many of these centres have a large number of employees, sometimes in the hundreds, and the safety preparations are taking a while.
