The Municipality of the District of Barrington has plans to “enhance” many of it’s beaches.
Warden Eddie Nickerson says they have some of the most beautiful beaches in the province but many need various amenities for visitors.
He says the Northeast Point Beach is one of those they are planning to upgrade.
“We don’t have any bathroom or washroom facilities there. We’d like to put something that’s more user-friendly than your, for lack of better words, port-a-potties…looks a little better, maybe built to look like a sea shanty type of thing, fit the landscape there.”
Warden Nickerson says they have had some plans in the works for a while and have even begun some of the enhancements at Stoney Island Beach, where they have already purchased thirty-one acres of land.
“We’re in the process of putting a parking lot there. We’re going to put a fenced-in parking area so you can’t drive all over the beaches, and then there’s plans to put a well there, get some electricity down there, put some change rooms down there, maybe a boardwalk, a boat launch.”
He says several other beaches will also have work done to improve the experience for the many visitors from all over the region.
