Many businesses in Nova Scotia have partially re-opened this week and many more are opening on the fifth.
Daycare is not re-opening until the fifteenth and Premier Stephen McNeil addressed the concerns of parents, saying it’s about the safety of our children.
“Obviously, we wanted daycare centres and the economic future of our province to open at the same time but when Public Health comes to me and says the plan is not ready and they need another week, why would I go against that. Too many other provinces have re-opened their daycares too soon and look what’s happened in those provinces.”
He is asking employers to respect employees who have problems with daycare for the ten days extra that it will take until they open.
The Premier also announced more relaxing of the protocols around gatherings with the limit rising from five to ten people for a gathering, as long as they stay six feet apart, with one exception.
“For funerals and weddings…we are allowing fifteen people to gather. Our province has experienced a lot of death and families need to come together to celebrate the life of their loved ones. They can do that now with fifteen people, not including those conducting the service.”
Campers will soon be allowed to venture out, as well.
“Private campgrounds can open for all types of campers but capacity of the campground is limited to fifty percent, so operators can maintain the six feet distance between campers. Provincial campgrounds will open in Nova Scotia on June fifteenth and they will also be operating at reduced capacities.”
Reservation lines for provincial campgrounds will open on June eighth.
As well, pools can start maintenance work to prepare for reopening, likely in time for summer, but sleepover camps are not being permitted this year.
