Dalhousie University in Halifax will be increasing the cost of tuition in the fall.
In a memo posted to its website, Dalhousie President and Vice-Chancellor Deep Saini says tuition will increase 3% this year.
He says annual increases are necessary to maintain the quality of academic programming, especially in light of COVID-19.
The news isn’t all glum – the institution will be doubling financial aid bursary funding, adding $3 million to the pot.
That’s on top of $36 million dollars of currently available assistance such as scholarships and bursaries.
Dalhousie will also waive or modify many student fees to help offset the tuition increase, including all athletics and recreation fees for the fall term.
The full upcoming operating budget is still under review and will be considered by the Board in June.
