The Nova Scotia Assembly of Chiefs reminds some residents that double dipping will cost in the long run.
A press release issued Tuesday notes that it applies to residents living in any one of the Assembly’s thirteen Mi’kmaw communities.
Anyone who was receiving social assistance from community government before the COVID-19 pandemic may not eligible to collect CERB payments on top of that.
Doing so will result in having repay CERB payments at a later date through GST, GIS, Canada Child Benefit, or other government initiatives.
Some residents could still be eligible for the payment.
They recommend reaching out to the local community Social Development Administrator to discuss social assistance program benefits and eligibility.
