A clinical trial involving plasma donations from recovered COVID-19 patients has it’s first donor.
Canadian Blood Services is a part of CONCOR, a national clinical trial to test the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 convalescent plasma as a possible treatment for those with to with the virus.
The first donation was collected in Vancouver last week from a longtime donor.
“I’m delighted to be able to help out a really good cause. I have been an active blood donor for 15 years. I’m pleased my unfortunate situation can help somebody else. I think I’m doing a little bit of good out of all this.” says Jerry Glubisz, Canadian Blood Services’ first COVID-19 convalescent plasma donor.
Canadian Blood Services is recruiting potential convalescent plasma donors across the country through an <a href=”https://blood.ca/en/ convalescentplasma” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>online registry.
Donors can contribute at 11 centres in Canada including Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto and Halifax.
Participants must be 67-years-old or younger, have previously confirmed positive for COVID-19 by a lab test and be fully recovered from the virus and symptom free for at least 28 days.
