A former teacher of RCMP Cst. Heidi Stevenson says he remembers her fondly.
Stevenson was among at least 19 people who died in the weekend shooting massacre in the province.
Brent Bannerman, a former Dr. J.H. Gillis High music teacher who now teaches part-time at StFX, says Stevenson played clarinet and bass clarinet in the band program during her time at the Antigonish school.
Bannerman says he couldn’t believe when heard she was killed in the line of duty.
“Just absolute shock- yeah,” he says. “(She was) like family.”
Stevenson graduated from Dr. J.H. Gillis High in 1989.
Bannerman says he remembers that graduating class as good players, and he has fond memories of her.
“Great personality, great laugh, just outgoing, positive, (and) fun to be around,” he says. “Her friends were great, typical of her.
Bannerman says he stayed in touch with Stevenson and many of her classmates through Facebook after graduation.
