The COVID-19 crisis has cost the country an estimated 800,000 food service jobs, including nearly 24,500 in Nova Scotia.
A new survey by Restaurants Canada says nine per cent of restaurants which have closed won’t reopen, and another 18% could close within a month if the situation doesn’t improve.
Spokesperson Luc Erjavec says they commend the work government has done so far, but more needs to be done to help restaurants survive.
He says restaurants, landlords, banks and governments need to come up with a relief package for rent, mortgages, and commercial and business taxes, among others.
