A little planning goes a long way when it comes to grocery shopping during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Most people are trying to make fewer trips to the grocery store in light of physical distancing rules.
Dietitian Stephanie Gagnon recommends creating a meal plan and grocery list for at least an entire week before hitting the store.
She says keeping a pantry stocked with staples such as rice and canned goods is also important.
“Try including vegetables and fruit that have a longer shelf life,” she explained. “So I’m thinking, potatoes, beets, carrots, onions, cauliflower, even apples and oranges for fruit that can keep for awhile. Frozen is also a great option if you have the space in your freezer, it’s just as good as fresh.”
Gagnon notes that it’s also prudent to batch-cook and to freeze meats so you can take them out as needed. She says items like rice and oats often make up the core of many dishes, which makes it easy to mix-and-match and build meals upon.
