There are now 193 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia, with twenty new cases identified yesterday.
In a release, the Department of Health and Wellness says “900 COVID-19 tests were completed at the QEII Health Sciences Centre’s microbiology lab”.
Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Robert Strang, wanted to emphasize the good news from the testing.
“Nine individuals are currently in hospital and I’m pleased to report now, today, that sixteen individuals are recovered and they can be considered to be resolved. We are testing lots of people and only a small proportion are testing positive. That is really due credit again to my colleagues at the laboratory.”
There have been 7,446 negative test results in the province so far.
Dr. Strang says they now have an map online which breaks the numbers down by zone.
“It’s really important that people now understand that we have cases across the province. As I’ve said previously, I don’t want people to focus on whether this community or that community has cases…you have to understand that there is potential in every in every community in the province and we need all Nova Scotians, no matter where they live, to be taking the necessary protective steps.”
He says now is the time, since fourteen days have passed, to minimize community spread.
At the end of the update, Premier Stephen MacNeil wanted to give a special thank you to all the people who are helping others socially.
He mentioned the musicians and artists creating social media pages for people to relax and enjoy, especially the young people stepping up.
“And then there’s the Sydney River brothers Liam and Lucas, who launched their own weekly broadcast, called East Coast Kids News. Thank you for representing Doctor Strang’s protocols every week. You’re doing an outstanding job of inspiring all of us…and for telling your audience about all the cool new apps that are out there.”

The Premier also thanked the people who are making colouring books, board games, and puzzles available for neighbours not online.
