
A big blow to the newspaper industry, as SaltWire Network has announced some significant cuts.
The publisher says that the temporary changes are effective immediately, and are in response to the rapidly changing economic conditions related to COVID-19.
All weekly publications in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland – including The Vanguard and the South Shore Breaker – will be suspended for 12 weeks .
Additionally, SaltWire has laid off approximately 40% of their staff across Atlantic Canada.
Subscribers to paid weeklies will receive the weekend edition of The Chronicle Herald.
No changes are being made to the flyer distribution network.
The company says it hopes to be able to return to normal operations as soon as possible but is planning for these changes to be maintained until roughly mid-June.
